A perfect PNW day for an Engagement Session in Seattle

When planning your engagement session, I think one of the most important factors should be LOCATION. What kind of memories do you want to look back on in 20 years? For these two, celebrating their love of nature and just lush green environments was what they wanted during a trip to Seattle! They are from Anchorage and flew down just to hang out with me at my favorite place – Discovery Park!

Not only does Discovery Park sit right against Puget sound, but it faces the Olympic Mountain range and on a clear day you can see them all. We were so lucky that their engagement session fell on the most perfect Seattle day at a whopping 75 degrees.

How do we feel comfortable for our session?

I think the key to a good engagement sessions is connecting with your couples prior. Whatever that means – texting, face-timing, sending inspiration – connection is key. When we met up, Emma and I felt like old friends and that is because we had been communicating about her vision and just about them as a couple for a couple months. Being friends is so important when choosing a photographer for any major event in your life. It makes the photos turn out that much more special.

There are so many places in Seattle to have a beautiful engagement session, but I just thrive here. It has so much to offer, and it’s only a 10 minute walk to this beautiful overlook.

Why do we need to do engagement photos before our wedding?

Aside from what I posted above about connection with your photographer prior, I think it’s a great way to see how your wedding day will flow with photography.

Of course, there will be a timeline and so much more going on, but this shows you how you will feel in front of the camera! Not only is it a good way to practice and have a little date day, but you can have memories of this stage in your life before you commit to the next one. These are the moments of joy and wonder before maybe you move in together, or move to another city. These are the moments of reveling in the excitement that you are getting MARRIED!

You can also print these out and display them at your wedding. People LOVE a good guestbook with printed images, and they love looking at photos of you scattered throughout your venue.
